Fascist Massacres Commemorated in Milan
On the morning of August 10th, hundreds gathered in Piazzale Loreto in Milan to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the fascist massacre of 15 partisans. Applause and protests erupted during the traditional ceremony, honoring the victims and criticizing the local authorities.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Mayor Anna Scavuzzo, who praised the sacrifices of the martyrs and criticized the current government’s failure to unequivocally condemn fascism. Primo Minelli, president of the Milan ANPI branch, echoed these sentiments, urging the government to take a stronger stance against fascism’s legacy.
Some attendees criticized the ceremony itself, arguing that it whitewashes the atrocities of the fascist regime. Massimo Sertori, a local advisor, emphasized the brutality of the massacre, while Paolo Festa, the city’s managing director, condemned the fascist ideology and its devastating consequences.
The ceremony sparked controversy, with some criticizing the organizers for glorifying fascism. Others defended the event as a necessary reminder of the past and its influence on the present.
