By the term “omotenashi” Lexus engineers refer to the highest level of hospitality. Something that is reflected in the latest of his creations, the LM, as we have seen in its dynamic presentation, in the surroundings of Krakow (Poland).
This is a completely new type of vehicle for Lexus in Europe, a luxury transportation concept that combines the qualities of a limousine with the spaciousness of a minivan, and which, according to first orders, convinces all types of customers, both companies and individuals, but always seeking the maximum expression of VIP transportation. And the concept seems to work, since the vehicle has not yet landed in dealerships, but it has already accumulated half of the orders planned for this year, a total of 150 units.
The LM has a 2.5-liter, 250 HP self-charging hybrid engine. Incorporating as standard the Lexus E-Four electronic all-wheel drive increases the level of rear torque distribution, to provide the vehicle with greater stability in corners and contribute to occupant comfort.
To achieve this, the rear Comfort driving mode adjusts the performance of the suspension and the distribution of engine torque and suppresses vibrations, helping both the vehicle and its occupants to maintain a more comfortable posture. Dip is reduced by 10% and dive by 45% when accelerating and braking.
The Driving Mode Selection system also offers Normal, Eco, Sport and Custom options, which can be accessed through buttons on the multimedia screen, or touch controls on the steering wheel. Eco mode adjusts engine/transmission and air conditioning performance to boost overall vehicle efficiency; In Sport mode, the engine/transmission, steering and suspension are tuned for more agile response, and in Custom mode, the driver can select their preferences. In all modes, the vehicle’s braking performance is designed to minimize occupant head movement.
It can be defined as a “hotel on wheels” in which its careful interior stands out. The seats are designed for maximum comfort, with absolute control of the cabin in terms of temperature, air quality and lighting. Available with 4 or 6+1 seats, it has multiple connectivity options, including a 48-inch HD widescreen screen.
Rear seats with large FP widescreen
The partition screen of the four-seater model has a cast magnesium frame. The upper section, made of clear glass, offers rear occupants a direct view of the road ahead. In addition, it can be opened or closed electrically and, if more privacy is desired, it can be made opaque at the touch of a button.
The two glass panels of the roof, the side windows and the rear quarter windows have electric sunshades. They can be opened or closed separately or all at once; those on the side windows work from top to bottom, so they can be partially closed and dim the sunlight without blocking the outside view.
The cabin is illuminated by ambient and indirect lighting on the roof and side panels, as well as by ceiling-mounted spotlights and, on the four-seat model, indirect lighting at foot level. The interior can be customized with a wide range of different ambient color settings, including 14 shades.
The cabin of the seven-seater LM follows the same horizontal/vertical design theme as the four-seater model. The captain’s seats in the middle row offer great comfort, with large adjustable headrests, integrated heating and ventilation, and a massage function. There are USB charging ports on the underside of each seat, and HDMI ports and a power outlet are also easily accessible on the back of the center console. The backrests of the front seats feature grab handles and storage pockets, while the center armrest hides individual folding tables.
The third-row seats have particularly thick cushions and the ability to fold up to provide more luggage space if necessary. The rear quarter panels feature additional USB charging points.
Comfort for driver and passengers FP
But not everything is designed exclusively for passengers. Comfort is also enjoyed in the front seats, and especially the driver. The two front seats are electrically adjustable, the driver’s seat in eight directions and the passenger’s seat in four.
Thus, the layout of the main controls, indicators and other sources of information follows the Tazuna concept, so that the driver hardly has to make small movements of his hands or eyes and can focus his attention on the road. “Tazuna” is the Japanese word that describes the same type of intuitive control that a rider has over his horse, through slight adjustments of the reins.
To help the driver feel at one with the vehicle, the steering wheel has been moved closer and more upright, and the layout of the pedals and footrest has been precisely calculated. Multiple connectivity options are also offered: the front console storage compartment incorporates two USB-C ports and (in the seven-seat model) a Qi wireless charger; Another USB-C charging port, an HDMI port, and a 12V power outlet are located in the center console storage compartment. Throughout the vehicle, ports are discreetly illuminated, and cables can be inserted in any orientation. . Smartphones can also be integrated wirelessly using Apple CarPlay, or wired with Android Auto.
As for the trunk, the Lexus LM It has a minimum capacity of 110 liters if we use the seven available seats, but it reaches 1,191 liters with the rear seats folded down. At the moment, 60% of the reservations made are for the 6+1-seater model, and 40% for the four-seater version, and they are distributed 50% between private clients and companies. The first units will arrive in Spain this month. And as for prices, the 7-seater variant is on sale from 125,000 euros, while the 4-passenger version costs 150,000 euros.
