The mayor of Péage-de-Roussillon (Isère), André Mondange, filed a complaint after being physically attacked in the Avignon sector during the night from Thursday to Friday, the prefecture of ‘Isère.

The elected official, who testified on Sunday sur BFM-TVinvolves “people who identified themselves as nationalists” and who have “made unambiguously racist remarks” against his daughter, “who is mixed race”. It was these remarks which, according to the mayor, triggered a ” fight “during which he was beaten.

The events took place outside a pub, where Mr. Mondange was with members of his family. “One of the individuals wanted to strike with a bottle of beer in his hand – which also hit one of my nieces – and so, at that moment, very clearly, we were in danger and we had to intervene to protect the family group”said the mayor.
