A fire broke out at the Mental Health Center this evening just after 7 p.m., police said. The fire engulfed the building from the 9th floor upwards.

Patients and medical staff are currently being evacuated. There are no reports of serious injuries or victims, said the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Tsvetelina Randeva.

There are three firefighting teams and 11 firefighters on the scene, as well as numerous police teams helping to evacuate people.

The fire started from the 9th floor, but the reasons will become clear after an inspection of the premises. The next three floors are heavily smoky from the flames. Of these, 40 patients were evacuated, said the head of the fire department, Chief Commissioner Nikolay Nikolaev, who is on the scene. Mayor Dimitar Nikolov is also there.

The most important thing is that there are no victims, Nikolov stressed to the media. One patient with a severe form of schizophrenia was slightly gassed and taken to UMBAL Burgas. The rest of the patients are fine and calm. Those who live from the 9th to the 12th floor of the building will be moved to other rooms.

The management of the Mental Health Center stated that there is no need to transfer patients to other healthy facilities.
