The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense is implementing a project to build the infrastructure necessary to deploy NATO rapid reaction forces on high alert, according to a press release.

The contract for the construction of this infrastructure was signed between the project coordinator, the NATO Procurement and Support Agency, and UAB Merko statyba. In the process of implementing this project, it is planned to build 10 facilities, including barracks, a canteen, repair and maintenance workshops, helipads, a multifunctional center, and so on. Construction work is scheduled to be completed by 2026. The total value of the contract will exceed 110 million euros.

“In order to strengthen deterrence and strengthen collective defense, we are developing the infrastructure necessary to create the right conditions for the presence of NATO allies in Lithuania. This is one of our most important priorities for ensuring national and regional security,” Defense Minister Arvydas Anusauskas says.

After the implementation of this project, the Pabradsky training ground will become one of the most modern in the Baltic countries and will be able to accommodate up to 3,000 military personnel.

Appropriate conditions will be created for conducting exercises, for recreation, and transport and technical support will be provided, the press release says.
