The Director of the National Unit for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, Rani Amir, issued a cleanup order according to the Cleanup Law to the AKKON company – the owners of the cargo of the containers that fell into the sea and the goods inside broke up and scattered off the southern shores, and to the owner of the ship ASTRID L. As a result of the breakup of the containers that fell from the ship In the middle of the sea on Tuesday early morning, plastic materials and other products were washed away in the sea and on the beaches between the Ashkelon National Park and Nitsanim Beach.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Shipping and Ports Authority, in coordination, issued demands to the owners of the cargo and the ship to dispose of the containers and clean the beaches and the sea of ​​the various plastic and consumer products that were washed away from the containers. We emphasize that the containers do not contain dangerous substances. The Ministry and the Shipping and Ports Authority conducted a comprehensive audit of the ship, and the ship’s crew and the parties involved in the incident will be investigated.
