some are expected isolated rains in the next few days, but they are unlikely to be enough to move needle in the Paso Severino reserve. If the forecasts do not radically change, in a week the area of Montevideo and Canelones will not be potable or drinkable.

The president of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pouwarned that in the coming weeks it will not be possible to drink from the tap: the supply will not be cut off, but the water will be of worse quality, also with occasional turbidities, but that It can only be used for bathing, washing clothes, cleaning the house, and nothing else..

During the months of July and August, there is no rain on the horizon, and the government is rushing to finish the emergency dam in the Belastiqui Pass, which brings more influx to the Santa Lucía River. However, the water will still be loaded with sodium and chloride at levels that are up to 5 times those recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). For the pipes of the new dam, they already arrived yesterday 500 meters of special metal pipes that withstand high pressures. They were produced in Brazil and arrived adjusted to the reservoir construction schedule. Between today and tomorrow another 500 meters should be arriving.

Other emergency construction sites: What’s next?

In parallel and at full speed, the Campanario dam is being built, which consists of a provisional dam on the San Jose River: It will have the purpose of accumulating water to be able to make it drinkable later. It is being built with clay and will have pipes of 700 millimeters They are going to cross the dike.

For its part, the new collection and transfer work from the San José River to the Santa Lucía consists of installing 13.5 kilometers of pipes with a diameter of 1,200 millimeters to interconnect Paso Valdez with Belastiquí. It is calculated that this will be ready in a monthbut it depends on the speed at which the Brazilian supplier of the metal pipes can supply the need.
