Days after Iran launched a drone and missile attack on Israel, sources said that Israel launched an attack on Iranian territory on Friday.
Below are the reactions to the Israeli military response, ranging from official statements to posts on social media:
The far-right Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, wrote on the X platform a post consisting of one word: “Weak!”
In turn, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said: “It is absolutely necessary for the region to remain stable and for all parties to refrain from taking further measures.”
Regarding the French position on the Israeli response, French Deputy Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said: “All I can say is that France’s position is to call on all parties to stop the escalation and exercise restraint.”
Ben Saul, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on counter-terrorism and human rights, considered that “the recent Israeli strikes on Iran represent another violation of the prohibition imposed on the use of military force under international law and the United Nations Charter, and threaten the human right to life.”
Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi stressed that Japan is deeply concerned about the situation in the Middle East and strongly condemns any actions that lead to an escalation of the situation, adding that Japan will continue to make all necessary diplomatic efforts to prevent the situation from further deteriorating.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman also confirmed that “China opposes any action that would escalate tensions in the Middle East after the Israeli attack on Iran.”
