Ong San Suu Kyi, the ousted Myanmar leader, will face up to four years in prison for offenses of incitement and violation of corona restrictions, a source told Reuters.
President Wayne Mint has also been given a similar sentence by the country’s military regime.
Human rights groups claim that the arrest against her is based on false allegations, and have defined the prison sentence as “an example of the army’s determination to remove any opposition and stifle freedom.”
It is recalled that 76-year-old Aung San Suu Kyi has been detained since the military coup, along with other leaders of her party, after her government was democratically elected. The military took over again and declared the November 2020 general election fake.
Aung San Suu Kyi won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991, but it was also alleged against her that she did not stop the genocide against the Rohingya minority in her country.
