The Ukrainian Army just confiscated a device from russian soldiers that had not been seen since the beginning of the conflict, about a year ago. The ‘gadget’ receives the name of Spider, goes on the helmet of the military and serves to detect enemy lasers, thanks to its use, it is possible to avoid the attack of drones or snipers, according to the EurAsian Times. At the moment, the name of the manufacturing company and the exact origin of the device are unknown, which is causing heated debates on social networks.
The images of Spider were shared through social networks by the Ukrainian soldier Sergey Flashthis would have ended up in his power after a confrontation with soldiers belonging to the Wagner group, a group of mercenaries at the service of the Kremlin. Flash also got a manual in Russian that explains the operation of the ‘gadget’.
Indeed, the early warning device is designed to notify the soldier who is equipped with a imminent danger. It is capable of recognising, examining, and directionalizing laser emissions from laser rangefinders and laser guidance systems operating in the 0.8 to 1.8 micrometer range.
Spider alerts the soldier via a voice message briefly explaining the location of the laser to the soldier. The combatant can receive the warning in three different ways: by audio with vibration (indicating “left”, “center” or “right”), by light (due to the LEDs inside) and by a combination of the first two.
The ‘gadget’ can also work for 12 hours in a temperature range from -30 to +40 degrees. It has two batteries for it.
Indeed, one of the main characteristics of this device is that it is capable of alerting about the drone attack. It should be remembered that, since the beginning of the war, this type of device has played a crucial role. Both countries have resorted to commercial devices in order to use the devices for recognition. The Ukrainian Army even has a group of volunteers dedicated to building combat drones that have been used against the Russian invaders.
