The deputies rejected on Wednesday June 14 the amendment of a transpartisan group led by the socialist Guillaume Garot, which proposed to condition the installation of doctors and dental surgeons in areas well provided with caregivers to an authorization from the agency regional health authority (ARS).

The measure was rejected by 168 votes to 127. This amendment was not supported by the government, nor by Frédéric Valletoux, the rapporteur (Horizon) of the bill against medical deserts currently being debated in the Assembly. Doctors were also strongly opposed to such a provision.

“Create rigidities and constraints” for the installation of health professionals “will be totally counterproductive, and will only further divert from the practice of medicine”had launched the Minister of Health, François Braun, at the start of the discussions on Monday evening. “These debates offend our doctors. »

Frédéric Valletoux himself said he was opposed to a “regulation” immediately, believing that the number of doctors was too low over the next five or ten years for the problem to be solved: “I will be in favor of it the day when we have a large number of caregivers to dispatch to the territory. »
