The new OnePlus 10 Pro just broke in two on testing

by time news

One Plus’ new device may not have been launched in the world, but a popular YouTuber managed to get his hands on it, and using the same hands also broke it in two.

Zack Nelson, the YouTuber better known as JerryRigEverything, became famous for the torture tests he passes on to many gadgets. Between knives, lighters, and engravings that cause millions around the world to contract in a chair – he also performs the bending test we are all used to seeing in any such video. Now he has managed to put his fingers on the new OnePlus 10 Pro, which just broke in two lightly.

Oops

Everything goes as usual in Nelson’s test: the new OnePlus released so far only in China is scratched at “Grade 6”, the aluminum edges are scratched in pain, the back panel is barely scratched, the screen starts to show signs of burning after 40 seconds and the fingerprint reader survives relatively deep scratches . Nelson goes on to check, as usual, whether the device will bend under direct pressure, and immediately the device cracks below the line of cameras.

The good news is that the device itself survives this fold and remains active, but Nelson decides it’s time for the Fatality of the smartphone, and twists it from the other side as well, causing it to break in two as easily as you break a bar of chocolate. Nelson takes the opportunity and simply disassembles the back of the device to try and understand how a flagship device in 2022 suffers from such a relatively ancient problem. In his estimation, the space between the battery and the camera module leaves nothing to support the device body in case of direct pressure, the position of the volume button further reduces the support inside the device body, and the device body itself is made of thin metal than expected.

Sounds familiar to you?

In 2014 there was a storm in the world of technology: the iPhone 6 Plus was solemnly released after years of iPhone users demanding that Apple enlarge the screen of their favorite device, but Apple just did it without considering the fact that the device also becomes somewhat more sensitive. Reports began to pile up of users putting their new iPhones in their jeans pockets or tight pants, settled in, and when they got up they found that the screen was slightly crooked.

A YouTube channel called Unbox Therapy posted the video that made it famous, in which the new device warped with quite a bit of direct pressure. The video resonated around the world after gaining tens of millions of views in a matter of days, and the term “Bendgate” stuck with the new device. After that, pretty much the entire smartphone and tablet industry learned the lesson and started to firmly strengthen the device skeletons. People like Nelson from JerryRigEverything have made the curvature test a regular test. For the most part, pretty much all standard devices do not suffer from such problems, among other things to avoid the headlines that the iPhone 6 Plus received – but it seems that OnePlus did not receive the reminder on the subject.

A good old age

Born with a joystick in hand. He has far too many gadgets and far too little free time to play with them all. An unexplained hammer holder for calibrating device batteries. When he’s not busy writing about technology, he likes to talk about it, and a lot
