Since each country sees sunrise at a different time, the system of adjusting time accordingly has been in place since 1884.
Accordingly, the Baker and Howland Islands, which are closest to the United States, will be the last countries to welcome the New Year. New Year will be celebrated there on January 1st at 5.30 pm Indian time.
