The purpose of Russia’s planned tactical nuclear exercises is to work out a response to any attacks on the country’s territory that the West allows Ukraine to carry out with the weapons it supplies, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said, as quoted by Reuters and BTA.
Medvedev, who is a former president of the Russian Federation, has warned the West that in response to these attacks, Moscow may attack not only Ukraine.
“In some circumstances, the response (to such attacks) will target not only Kiev,” Medvedev wrote on the Telegram messaging app. “And not only with conventional explosives, but also with a special kind of weapons,” he added.
On Monday, Russia said it would practice deploying a tactical nuclear weapon as part of a military exercise, after which Moscow said it felt threatened by France, Britain and the United States.
Medvedev referred to recent comments by British Foreign Secretary David Cameron on Ukraine, who said he would allow London-supplied weapons to be used for purposes on Russian soil. Medvedev used a profanity in reference to Cameron, Reuters added.
