The number of expensive cars registered in Russia, in respect of which there are increasing tax coefficients, increased by 22.4% in 2020 and reached about 97,600, according to a study by the analytical service of the international audit and consulting network Finexpertiza, based on data from the Federal Tax Service ( is at the disposal of Vedomosti). More than 87,000 of them are premium cars costing 5-10 million rubles, and more than 10,500 are luxury cars from 10 million rubles.
However, the growth recorded in 2020 became the minimum since 2016, when the indicator was 13.7%. Already in 2017, it formed at the level of 51%, in 2018 – 31.1%, in 2019 – 48.3%. In general, over the past five years, the number of premium cars in the country has almost quadrupled, analysts said.
About a third – 30,760 – of elite cars in the country are concentrated in Moscow. Another 10,710 are registered in St. Petersburg, 8470 – in the Moscow region, 4640 – in the Krasnodar Territory, 2590 – in Tatarstan. The smallest number of those in Chukotka – 8 pieces. In the Jewish and Nenets Autonomous District there are 14 and 18, respectively, 23 – in Tuva, 33 – in Kalmykia.
In 2020, an increase in the number of premium cars was recorded in all regions of Russia, except for three. So, in Crimea, their number decreased by 18% to 346 units, and in Ingushetia – by 5% to 96. In Tuva, the number has not changed since 2019.
Analysts have noted a downward trend in the share of premium cars registered with legal entities. If in 2016–2017. they accounted for about half of the total vehicle fleet, then in 2020 – 35%. The remaining 65% are registered for individuals.
The total accrued tax on luxury cars was 5.83 billion rubles in 2020: 4.36 billion rubles. for the premium segment and 1.47 billion rubles. for an ultra-expensive luxury, experts said. Compared to 2019, the aggregate indicator increased by 13.8%. The volume of fees is growing as the number of elite foreign cars on Russian roads actually increases and the list of cars that are considered premium and, accordingly, subject to an increased tax, expands.
