87-year-old King Harald V of Norway has returned to work after illness. This was reported by Reuters, Day.Az reports with reference to Lenta.ru.

In February, Harald, believed to be the world’s oldest sitting monarch, was hospitalized during a trip to Malaysia. It was initially reported that the reason for hospitalization was some kind of infection. It later became known that he had a pacemaker implanted to compensate for his heart rhythm. After this, the king did not appear in public for almost two months.

Harald stated that he does not plan to abdicate the throne and retire, despite his age and state of health. He explained this by saying that he swore an oath to serve as king for the rest of his life.

The palace announced that the monarch’s future schedule would undergo changes. From now on, he will take part in official events less often, and their scale will also be reduced.

In recent years, Harald repeatedly required hospitalization due to infectious diseases. In addition, he was treated for cancer and underwent heart surgery.

Despite this, the monarch tried to lead an active lifestyle even in old age. In 2016, Harald took part in the World Sailing Championships on Lake Ontario and even received the nickname “Sailor King” as he spent the night on board his yacht Sira.
