The Music Office Association of the Basque Country (EHMBE) has launched the eighth edition of the Music Office Awards, and the actors of the Basque music scene can present their projects until February 2nd. “The purpose of these awards is to highlight the musical works made and their contribution to Basque culture. Therefore, there is no categorization, unlike in other competitions”, they explained.

This year’s award ceremony will take place on May 15, at the Central Hall in Pamplona, and anyone working in the music sector of the Basque Country can submit a nomination for the 2024 Music Office Awards. Until now, among others, Zea Mays, Izaro, Su Ta Gar, Chill Mafia, Gabriel Erkoreka, Kepa Junkera, Teresa Catalan, Bilboko Kafe Antzokia or the Eresbil Music Archive have been awarded in previous editions.

Works or creations made in Basque will have added value, although instrumental creations or those made in other languages can also be presented, as long as they create or interpret any Basque music, regardless of the genre of music. The works must have been presented to the public between January 1, 2023 and December 31, 2023.

A jury of professionals made up of musicians, journalists, music programmers and people from the world of education will evaluate the submitted proposals and choose eight of the 11 awardees. As in previous editions, the board of directors of the Basque Country Music Office Association will award a special prize to a person or organization related to Basque music activity, for developing a notable project in areas such as training, awareness or dissemination.

This year’s main innovation is the Public Award, which will affect the final result of the list of winners. After the first selection by the jury, the voting will be opened, so that the public can choose their favorite artist, through the association’s website and social networks. The aim of the initiative is to give a voice to all the people who enjoy and value the talent of Basque artists.

The Etxepare Basque Institute will give another award to recognize the work done by an artist or trainee to spread Basque music outside our borders.
