In Toulouse, a new rally is scheduled for Thursday at 8 p.m. in the Mirail district. The day before, the face-to-face with the police, place André-Abbal at the Reynerie, ceased at nightfall. A few groups of young people then circulated erratically in the Mirail district and new interventions were necessary at the end of the night or in Blagnac, in the Toulouse suburbs. According to the prefecture, fourteen arrests were made, twenty-seven vehicles burned, as well as a destroyed camera, and around thirty fires of garbage containers observed.

Four minor injuries among the police are to be deplored and the police used a weapon on a dangerous dog. During this first evening, about ninety police officers and nearly forty firefighters were mobilized. The mayor of Toulouse, Jean-Luc Moudenc (ex-Les Républicains), reaffirmed his “support for the forces of order, and I hope that a security device adapted to the situation will be put in place, today and for as long as necessary. » He recalled his “appeal to everyone’s responsibility, first and foremost political leaders, whose role is certainly not to fan the embers”. François Piquemal, MP (LFI-Nupes) for the constituency, for his part, tweeted: “We can understand anger and emotion but violence solves nothing, justice does. »
In Toulouse, at the end of 1998, it was the death of a young man from this city, Habib, known as “Pipo”, who had set the Mirail on fire on the evening of December 13. The 17-year-old was fatally injured by a police brigadier who was trying to arrest him in a parking lot where the young man was stealing a BMW with an accomplice. “Pipo” was found dead a few meters from the scene, an hour and a half later, under a car, shot by a bullet fired by a 42-year-old peacekeeper. The same official had been sentenced in 2001 to a three-year suspended prison sentence. Since then, apart from the riots of 2005, the district in full urban renewal, has known few evenings of violence.
