The Peruvian Prosecutor’s Office announced this Monday that has initiated a preliminary investigation against the country’s president, Dina Boluarte, for alleged corruptionafter having acquired several high-value brand watches.
The Area of Illicit Enrichment and Constitutional Complaints has ordered the initiation of proceedings against the president “for the alleged commission of the crime of illicit enrichment and failure to record a statement in documents for the use of Rolex brand watches,” according to a statement.
The Peruvian news portal La Encerrona revealed that Boluarte has a collection of high-end watches, including one valued at around $14,000, through an analysis of 10,000 photographs. “I have been working since I was 18, what I have is the result of my effort,” he responded to journalists.
