Bangla New Year 1431 Bangla will be celebrated all over the country at midnight. Around this festival, the price of hilsa has increased by Tk 500 to Tk 700 per kg in the markets of the whole country including the capital.

On Saturday (April 13), this image was seen by visiting Kaptan Bazar and Rayer Bagh Bazar in the capital. The sellers say that now is the dry season. As the water in the river is low, Hilsa is caught very little. Hence, the price is high.

In Kaptan Bazar and Rayer Bagh Bazar, the price of hilsa weighing one kg and more is Tk 3,100 to Tk 6,300. 10 days ago each hilsa weighing one kg and above was sold for Tk 2,600 to Tk 5,800. Traders are asking 2 thousand to 2 thousand 700 hilsa for 700 grams to 900 grams. 10 days ago hilsa of 700 to 900 grams was sold for Tk 1,500 to Tk 2,100. Hilsa weighing 500 to 600 grams is Tk 900 to 1,300 per kg. 10 days ago its price was 650 to 850 taka.

In this regard, Kaptan Bazar is the owner of Allah’s Dan Matsya Bitan. Saki said, now less hilsa is being caught in the river. 50 maunds of hilsa fish arrived in Kaptan market today. At other times it would be 150 manas. Hilsa demand is high and supply is very low for Eid (Eidul Fitr) and Pahela Baishakh. If the demand is high, the price will be a little higher.

He said that hilsa fish weighing 1 kg 100 grams to 1 kg 800 grams was sold at the rate of Tk 1 lakh 28 thousand per maund in the wholesale market. Hilsa weighing 600 to 700 grams is being sold for 50 to 52 thousand taka per maund.

Kamal Mridha, a retail fish trader in Kaptan Bazar, said that the fish of Barisal and Chandpur have more taste. Buyers come from different areas of the capital to buy fish here. But, the fish is less than the demand. Hilsa fish is sold in 15 shops in this market. Today, six stores have hilsa fish. Today I bought more than 500 to 700 taka per kg and sold it at a small profit.

Talked to a buyer named Anwarul Islam. He said that the girl is serious about eating hilsa-panta. The price is too high. Still, thinking about my daughter, I bought a small hilsa.

Another buyer named Abul Hossain said that not all stores have hilsa fish. A few are in stores. At the asking price, a middle class like me cannot afford to buy hilsa. I am going home without buying hilsa.
