Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced today (Monday) that they have agreed to extend the term of office of Bank of Israel Governor Prof. Amir Yaron for another term. The decision will be brought to the approval of the government at its next meeting, and then to the approval of the president of the state who is authorized to appoint the governor on the recommendation of the government.

Prof. Yaron began serving as governor in December 2018. According to the law, the governor’s term is fixed for five years, and it can be extended for another five years.
