The Prime Minister issues a set of directives related to the Nebras Petrochemical Project

Today, Sunday, Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani issued a set of directives related to the Nebras Petrochemical Project.

The Prime Minister’s Media Office stated in a statement received by the (INA): “Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani chaired, this Sunday evening, a meeting devoted to discussing the completion of the Nebras petrochemical project, which is one of the projects that have been lagging since 2015, and which the government is focusing on.” Implementing and working on it in accordance with the priorities of economic reform.”
He added, “The meeting discussed appointing a consulting body for the project to undertake the technical aspects and specifications and follow up on the quality of technological paths in designs and production units.”
He continued, “The Prime Minister directed that the Ministry of Industry and Minerals undertake the completion of the consensual settlement with Shell, which informed the government of changing its work strategy and moving to focus more on gas projects in Iraq, thus paving the way for other international companies to implement this important and vital project.” .
He stated, “As the Prime Minister directed, the Ministry of Oil should submit a report on international companies wishing to work and undertake implementation, in accordance with the specifications and standards required for the project facilities.”
During the meeting, emphasis was placed on developing and studying the administrative structure that will manage the project and its implementation and operation processes.
He pointed out that “Shell has withdrawn from the Nebras project, following a change in the company’s plans regarding petrochemicals around the world, and the focus on the gas sector. The company’s continuation of work in Iraq, which has continued for ten years, has been confirmed, and the desire to expand in the field has been confirmed.” Associated gas investment, in a meeting between the Prime Minister and the company’s CEO, held on the sidelines of the Sudanese’s recent visit to the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
