Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will present the Ekushey Padak-2024 to 21 eminent persons today (February 20). At 11 am, the Prime Minister will present the second highest civilian award of Bangladesh in a ceremony at Osmani Smriti Auditorium in the capital.

Ekushey Medal on the occasion of the President. Sahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages. In separate messages, both the President and the Prime Minister wished the event success.

Earlier, on February 13, the government announced the names of 21 eminent citizens for the Ekushey Padak for their outstanding contributions in their respective fields. This year, two people are receiving the award in language movement category, 12 people in arts, two people in social service, four people in language and literature and one person in education.

Prominent persons nominated for the medal are, Mau in the language movement. Ashrafuddin Ahmad (posthumous) and heroic freedom fighter Hatem Ali Mia (posthumous). Jalal Uddin Khan (posthumous), Veer Muktijodha Kalyani Ghosh, Vidit Lal Das (posthumous), Andrew Kishore (posthumous) and Shubhra Dev in art music.

In addition, Shibli Mohammed in dance, Dolly Zahoor and MA Alamgir in acting, Khan Md. in recital. Mustafa Waleed (Shimul Mustafa) and Rupa Chakraborty, Shahjahan Ahmed Bikas in painting, Kawsar Chowdhury in making and archiving documentary films related to liberation war, Md. in social service. Ziaul Haque and Rafiq Ahmed, Muhammad Samad, Lutfar Rahman Riton, Minar Mansoor and Rudra Muhammad Shahidullah (posthumous) in language and literature and Professor Jinbodhi Bhiksu in education.

‘Ekushey Padak’ was introduced to commemorate the martyrs of the language movement of 1952. The winners of this award receive a gold medal, certificate and cash.
