The draft amendment to the law on health insurance companies, which touches on the endless debate about making a profit, landed in the parliament. Member of the SASKA party Jana Bittó Cigániková proposes to regulate the profit of health insurance companies based on quality criteria that should reflect the priorities of the state’s health policy.
Currently, the profit of health insurance companies is regulated in three ways. By determining a reasonable economic result in the amount of a maximum of one percent of the insurance premium after redistribution, by determining the minimum limit of health care expenses, and thirdly, by the obligation of the insurance company to create technical reserves for planned health care.
The MP claims that the regulation of the profit of insurance companies must give the state a tool with which it could influence the activities of health insurance companies so that they benefit the patient.
