Roscosmos executive director for manned programs Sergei Krikalev said “Interfax”that Boeing’s CST-100 Starliner manned spacecraft must undergo safety testing. Russian cosmonauts will be able to fly on it as part of a regular mission to the ISS Starliner-1 only after the reliability of all systems is confirmed by the corporation.

“No. Starliner is a new ship, we are still analyzing its safety. Our people will land when safety is confirmed,” Mr. Krikalev answered the question of whether the Russian cosmonaut will be able to join the mission crew.

November 22 Canadian Space Agency appointed astronaut Joshua Kurtyk as part of the crew of the Starliner manned spacecraft mission to the ISS. He will participate in the mission with NASA astronauts Scott Tingle and Michael Fink. To be cleared for the mission, Boeing must conduct a certification flight of the spacecraft to the station. It is planned to take place in April 2024. September 15, head of NASA’s manned flight program Kenneth Bowersox statedthat the company has not yet completed negotiations with Roscosmos on the crew composition for Starliner.

In June, NASA and Boeing announced that the first manned flight of the CST-100 Starliner would be delayed due to discovered technical problems. Then the companies said that engineers had detected problems with parachutes and the possibility of a fire in the electrical wiring windings of the ship’s internal systems.
