The special program of selling eggs at the price fixed by the government will start on Thursday (October 17). The large corporate organizations of this industry will supply 2 million eggs per day to the two main wholesale markets of the capital – Tejgaon and Kaptan Bazar.

Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council (BPICC), chief coordinator of the special egg sale program, said in a press release on Wednesday (October 16).

According to the press release, initially this program was started in Dhaka, but the people concerned think that it will have an impact all over the country.

Due to the recent landslides and floods caused by heavy rains, almost one-fourth of the country’s poultry farms were damaged, reducing the production of about 60-70 lakh eggs per day. This results in an imbalance of supply and demand.

He said that in this time of crisis in the country, if a group tries to make extra profit, instability occurs in the egg market. For the greater interest of the country and the people, the central organization of the poultry industry, BPICC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, has undertaken a special program for the next 15 days, in which each egg is available from the farm at 10 taka 58 paisa, wholesale at 11 taka 1 paisa and retail at 12 taka. will go

The combined efforts of the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, the Ministry of Agriculture, the market surveillance agency of the government, large egg farmers and wholesalers are expected to make this initiative successful.

According to BPICC, two separate meetings were held on October 15 in the morning at the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection and in the afternoon at the Directorate of Livestock. On that evening, an online meeting was convened by BPICC’s initiative by contacting the big farmers producing eggs. Another meeting was held the next day on October 16, with representatives of large farmers and wholesale traders of Tejgaon and Kaptan Bazar. Where the issues related to the supply and marketing of eggs from different parts of the country to the capital Dhaka are discussed.

Later, after discussing with the National Consumer Protection Directorate, it was decided to start the sale of eggs at the official price in Kaptan Bazar of the capital from Thursday morning. Due to lack of time it is not possible to reach the consignment of eggs in Tejgaon wholesale market on time. Therefore, after a day on Friday, Tejgaon market will start operations.

The egg suppliers in this program are: Kazi Farms, Diamond Eggs Limited, Paragon Poultry, People’s Poultry & Hatchery, Narish Poultry, VIP Shahadat Poultry, North Egg Limited, Nabil Agro, RRP, Rana Poultry, Chand Agro, Krishivid Poultry, Chitra Agro, Aman Poultry and Mega Poultry. BPICC expects Afil Agro and Pran Agro to join the program later.
