Turin Luciano Fresia stops in front of the small turquoise car and pulls out his smartphone. The Yoyo, as the Italian two-seater is called, can be operated entirely via app: opening, closing, windows, air conditioning. “The battery details can also be read out via cell phone,” says Fresia, who works at XEV – a car manufacturer that is only six years old and wants to break into the European market.
The Yoyo is classified as a light electric vehicle and can be driven from the age of 16. The Chinese Lou Tik founded the company in 2017 in Turin, where the cars are also designed, and the first prototype was created in 2018. Production takes place in Shanghai, two years ago the first models were sold in Europe – in the middle of the pandemic, when other car manufacturers had to stop their assembly lines.
