«They are songs that I have heard since I was in my mother’s belly, imagine if I feel them mine, but there is only one from Lole and from Manuel, too and I have the utmost respect for his music”, he says the singer Alba Molina. The daughter of Manuel Molina and Dolores Montoyathe duo that revolutionized flamenco, performs on Friday at the Teatre de Blanes inside the FlamenGi festival, the Flamenco Festival of Girona, which from November 10 to 26 will bring fifteen shows to stages in the capital, Fig trees or the Bisbal d’Empordà.

Alba Molina will offer Blanes a tribute to the legacy forged by her parents since the seventies, a music that endures, she says, because “well-made things don’t need anyone to shine: a flower smells even if no one smells it, and the the same happens with Lole y Manuel’s songs, because they are the soundtrack of a life».

“I interpret them with the stamp that characterizes us, i they are part of me, but they are unrepeatable“, continues the singer, who assures that she does not want to “do anything out of the ordinary, because they are perfect songs in themselves” and it makes her “angry that someone distorts them”.

“It is natural for me to have been born in a house full of music, and moreover, exquisite music is my way of life. Around the age of fourteen or fifteen I did begin to understand how important I was to others, however I have always felt accompanied by my parents’ love and good music», states Molina when asked when he began to be aware of what Lole y Manuel represented for flamenco music.

And now, as an adult, everything on occasion he has sung alongside Lole -Manuel Molina died in 2015, at the age of 67-, he says that he is “very ashamed”. “The word stinks, I don’t enjoy it that much, because I love hearing it,” he continues.

In the last seven years, Alba Molina has sung the music of her parents in many ways, at the FlamenGi she will be accompanied by Álvaro Gandul on the piano, an instrument that does not have the compass of the guitar, but “it is more versatile, for to a more jazzy ground» and combining Triana’s duet songs with boleros and jazz standards, topics that “make sense” in his personal life and that are part of the album New day.

«In my house all I listen to is jazz and music and classicalI love the old productions of Ella Fitzgerald, Chet Baker, Miles Davis…», indicates an artist who grew up between songs and who considers that “music is a blessing, but the industry is shit and worthless”.
