The Stallions regain confidence. It’s been a long time since Hubert Velud and his players experienced victory. They have finally returned to success.

After drawing (0-0) against Equatorial Guinea on Thursday October 12, the Stallions wanted to end this FIFA period on a good note. They succeeded in their bet by dominating the Mourabitounes of Mauritania (2-1).

Konaté opens the scoring

For this match, Valentin Nouma, who celebrated his first selection against Cape Verde (3-1 defeat), is lined up from the start. Stéphane Aziz Ki, acclaimed by the public, is also a holder. Issoufou Dayo forms the central hinge with Adama Nagalo, while Hilel Konaté keeps the cages. Blati Touré injured is not lined up while Gustavo Sangaré is on the bench.

In the 10th minute, on a slightly deflected cross, Mohamed Konaté sent the ball into the back of the net. But the referee cancels the goal for offside. Mohamed Konaté once again appears dangerous on a pass from Stéphane Aziz Ki, but he is beaten by the Mauritanian goalkeeper. On the following corner, taken by Ki, Mohamed Konaté places a header which deceives the opposing goalkeeper Babakar Niasse (1-0).

This goal frees the Stallions, who take control of the game and are not worried. The Burkinabè maintain this advantage (1-0) until the break.

Aziz Ki’s turn. Returning from the locker room, the Stallions continue with the same dynamic and double the lead thanks to Stéphane Aziz Ki.

After a poor recovery from the Mauritanian goalkeeper, Mohamed Konaté recovers the ball and serves his teammate. Aziz Ki just has to push the ball into the empty goal (2-0).

The Stallions scare each other

With this second goal, the Stallions are even more comfortable. But when we didn’t expect it, the Mauritanians reduced the gap thanks to Pape Ibnou Ba, who scored with a header (65th) following a free kick. This goal gives hope to the Mourabitounes, who are showing themselves to be more enterprising.

The Stallions then decide to react. Dango Ouattara (79th) forces the Mauritanian goalkeeper to make a good save to deflect the ball for a corner. On the following corner, Issoufou Dayo attempts a header which goes over the frame.

Despite the attempts of the Stallions in particular, such as this face to face failed by Cheich Djibril Ouattara, the score remains as it is (2-1). It was just a friendly match. But it’s good for the morale of the Stallions.

The Stallions will have to confirm or do better on January 16, 2023 at the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké. The two teams will meet this time for the first match of Group D of CAN 2023 in Ivory Coast. Algeria and Angola are also in the same group as Burkina Faso.
