The Standing Committee on Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges visited Mirpur-10 station of Metro Rail, Banani Setu Bhawan and BRTA Bhawan, which were heavily affected by the recent violence surrounding the quota reform movement.

On Thursday (August 1), the chairman of the committee, Rezwan Ahmed Tawfiq, member of the committee. Mujibul Haque and Abdullah-al-Qaiser visited all these establishments.

At that time, the president of the committee Rezwan Ahmed Taufiq said that the government has taken development projects like Metrorail for the welfare of the people. But a group attacked Metrorail, Setu Bhavan and BRTA offices in a planned manner to cause misery to citizens. The committee will discuss with the ministry how to quickly reopen the metro rail after assessing the damage caused by the destruction.

At this time, he expressed hope that common people will also be inspired by patriotism and protect the security of government property. Senior Secretary of Bridges Department, Secretary of Roads Department, Chairman of BRTA, Managing Director of Metrorail etc. were present during the visit.

It may be noted that when the violence of the quota movement spread, the metro rail movement was stopped from the afternoon of July 17. On July 19 miscreants attacked and vandalized metro rail’s Kazipara and Mirpur-10 stations. The two stations were heavily damaged. Managing Director of Metrorail said that it may take about 1 year to repair this damage.
