New Year is a holiday that unites people across different cultures, religions and geographical settings. This time New Year’s Day comes with a weekend holiday which has increased the excitement among the people. America
New Year’s celebration in America is unique compared to the rest of the world. Times Square there is crowded on New Year’s Day. In the middle of the night, illuminated by multi-colored lights, huge glittering balls are dropped from the pole. The custom, which takes place on the night of December 31st, was instituted in 1907 by New York Times owner Adolph Oakes.
Greece
Greeks welcome the New Year by hanging onions on their doors. They consider onion as a symbol of growth.
Spaniards value football as Greeks value onions. Eating 12 grapes in the New Year is believed to bring good luck and prosperity. If you finish eating this within 12 seconds of the birth of the new year, it will work. This custom has been followed since the 19th century. This type of grape eating is also practiced in Mexico.
Denmark
People from Denmark are celebrating the New Year in an innovative way that no one else in the world is celebrating. Before the start of the new year, they stand on the chair and jump down at precisely 12 o’clock to exchange greetings. They believe that by doing this they can protect themselves from evil spirits.
Japan
In keeping with the tradition of ‘letting in the old, the new comes in’, Japanese people enjoy hot noodles on New Year’s Day. Hope for good luck in the new year.
Philippines
Circular objects can be seen everywhere on New Year’s Day in this country. The people of the country say that this indicates prosperity. On New Year’s Day, they mostly wear circular dotted clothes. Even in dinner, round shaped fruits are served primarily.
