The works that are being completed were awarded in 2016 by the Andalusian Government Public Works Agency to the consortium formed by Metrotenerife and GPO Ingeniera de Sistemas. This contract included technical consultancy services for the pre-operation, start-up and initial supervision in the commercial operation phase of the Cádiz train-tram.
In order to carry out these technical assistance tasks, there has been a fixed and periodic presence in the area of professionals from the different Metrotenerife departments, especially from the Operation and Maintenance areas.
The team has been made up of an expert adviser in farm management; a specialist in organization and maintenance; the person in charge of the Tenerife tram Control Post and an operating technician. For their part, professionals were also assigned to the tasks of line manager, trainer driver and main driver.
As reported by Metrotenerife, its powers in this project have focused on the development of standards, regulations and certifications for the operation of the service, the development of different tests, theoretical and practical training of personnel linked to the service or training in the Computer aided maintenance management. All this in coordination with the Junta de Andalucía and Renfe, the company in charge of operating the Trambaha.

Regarding the contribution of this contract, the Tenerife operator considers that this contract has allowed it to “be part of a project that, at present, is unique in the panorama of infrastructures in Spain for combining the tram and rail system”. Five months after its inauguration, the Cádiz train-tram has passed one million passengers, and registers an average of 6,000 passengers per day. The 24-kilometre line connects the towns of Chiclana de la Frontera, Puerto Real, San Fernando and Cádiz.
