Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) has admitted that he is partly responsible for the poor appearance of the traffic light coalition. “As Chancellor, I bear responsibility for the government. This is a journey whose end is not yet in sight,” said Scholz. He wanted to “say this openly and honestly.”
Rumors about a change of chancellor are a “fairy tale”
Regarding the successes of the AfD, the Chancellor says: “The genie is out of the bottle.” Pushing this back will be “difficult when it comes to those who have right-wing views.” The others have to be convinced “by making a policy that that leads our country on the right path and addresses the problems.” Regarding the proposal to deprive politicians like the Thuringian AfD state chairman Björn Höcke of civil rights, he said: “That doesn’t convince me, to be honest.” According to the organizers, an online petition to revoke Höcke’s basic rights has so far received over 1.6 votes millions of people supported.
Scholz also rejected rumors that the SPD was considering a vote of confidence or a change of chancellor with his participation. This is “a fairy tale”. When asked if he had considered quitting, Scholz said: “No.”
