The Traitors Star’s Bike Crash: Emergency Surgery Details

The Traitors Star Amanda Collier Reveals Harrowing Bike Accident and Fallout from Show Exit

Former Metropolitan Police detective Amanda Collier, a standout contestant on the hit BBC series The Traitors, has shared details of a life-altering bike accident that occurred in 2022, alongside reflections on the emotional aftermath of her banishment from the show.

Collier, known as a “Faithful” contestant who was wrongfully suspected of treachery, experienced a terrifying crash while on holiday with her wife, Caroline, in France. The incident, which she described as causing the “most pain of [her] life,” unfolded during a leisurely bike ride in the Loire Valley countryside.

According to reports, the accident occurred when Caroline inadvertently clipped Collier’s wheel. “Out of the blue, Caroline accidentally clipped my wheel,” Collier recalled to The Sun on Sunday. The resulting impact sent her “headfirst into this flint wall.” Despite wearing a helmet, Collier instinctively reacted to avoid a potentially fatal neck injury. “Even though I was wearing a helmet, I realised I had to turn my body, or I would break my neck,” she explained.

The crash left Collier unable to breathe and with a severely winded feeling, describing the experience as “just awful.” She sustained a shattered collarbone and, with her shoulder protruding at an awkward angle, was unable to move. A French jogger came to their rescue, directing an ambulance to their location as the couple were unfamiliar with the area.

Following an initial assessment and morphine administration at a local hospital, Collier opted to return to the UK for surgery. The 15-hour journey home proved excruciating. “At one point, I asked my wife to pull over at the side of the road and leave me, as I thought I couldn’t go on,” she shared, highlighting the intense pain she endured. Caroline, however, persevered, ensuring they reached their destination.

Collier underwent surgery to insert a metal sheet into her bones, followed by a grueling two-month recovery period marked by emotional distress. “I felt very helpless, which was frustrating, as I am so independent normally; it was just horrendous, as I felt so vulnerable,” she stated. While she occasionally experiences “the odd twinge,” Collier has thankfully avoided any lasting major damage. The experience, however, instilled a renewed appreciation for her physical health. “I’ll never take my physical health for granted again,” she declared.

Collier’s journey on The Traitors mirrored her real-life resilience. Despite being banished from the Scottish Highlands castle after being falsely accused, she remained a strategic player, attempting to unmask the Traitors. Prior to her exit, she revealed her background as a former detective to fellow contestant Rachel, hoping to leverage her skills to identify the betrayers.

This revelation, however, proved bittersweet. Following her departure, Collier was shocked to learn that Rachel was, in fact, one of the Traitors. Speaking on Uncloaked with Ed Gamble, she admitted feeling “really stupid” for trusting her friend. “She was my best friend in the castle. But she’s just brilliant,” Collier conceded, acknowledging Rachel’s deceptive skills. She added, with a touch of self-deprecating humor, “Every day I was thinking, ‘Why have I not been murdered? I would murder me.’”

Collier also expressed frustration with how her strategic approach was perceived within the game. “Watching it, it just looks ridiculous,” she said. “I deserved to be banished. I had all this information in my head, and I just wanted to help. But I got called an influencer.”

The final episode left viewers on a cliffhanger, with the fate of remaining Traitors Rachel and Stephen hanging in the balance as they face scrutiny from crime author Harriet and hairstylist Jessie. The Traitors continues on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
