As part of the work of the commissions on border security and demarcation of the state border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, RA Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan and Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev met in the Ijevan and Kazakh sections of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

In a conversation with Aysor.am, the chairman of the “Democratic Alternative” party, Suren Surenyants, stated that if in the case of previous meetings of the representatives of this committee, political negotiations were also held in mediation platforms, now the picture has changed.

When the official Baku offered to negotiate without mediators, Yerevan, apparently, made it clear that it was not ready to negotiate without mediators, but also presented a counter-proposal, proposing to hold a meeting of demarcation commissions on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

According to Suren Surenyants, with such a move, official Yerevan, on the one hand, rejected Baku’s offer, on the other hand, it went forward.

“The trend is dangerous, if Azerbaijan sets this as a precedent and demands that from now on political negotiations take place without mediators, it will mean another diplomatic defeat for Armenia. Negotiating without mediators in the conditions of such a power imbalance means discussing the road map of Armenia’s capitulation.
