The United Kingdom wants to cooperate in the development of aviation industry in Bangladesh. British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cook informed the UK’s interest during a meeting with Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Muhammad Farooq Khan MP at his residence on Wednesday (April 24).

The High Commissioner said the UK has a long-standing partnership with Bangladesh’s aviation industry. We have previously worked together in various sectors of the aviation industry, including the development of airport security systems. The UK is keen to cooperate in a wide range of possible new areas, including improving the technical skills of Bangladesh’s aviation industry, creating trained personnel and further improving safety systems. The UK wants to play a role of partner in transforming Bangladesh into an aviation hub.

In reply, the Minister said, We welcome the interest of the friendly country United Kingdom to successfully transform Bangladesh into an aviation hub. It will be a pleasure for our two countries to work together in the development of the aviation industry. Opportunities for the two countries to work together in any field in the aviation industry will be explored.

Farooq Khan also said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the government is working to transform Bangladesh into a major aviation hub. Major development has been achieved in all the airports of the country including construction of third terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and further development work is ongoing. We are working towards transforming Syedpur Airport into a regional hub. After the completion of the development of Syedpur Airport, it will act as a game changer in terms of regional connectivity, economy and trade between Bangladesh, Nepal, India and Bhutan.
