The United States is exploring the option of concluding new contracts with Israel to supply it with tank and mortar shells, as well as military vehicles worth over $1 billion.

As Day.Az reports with reference to Interfax, unnamed representatives of the American authorities reported this to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

“Contracts currently under consideration include $700 million worth of 120mm tank shells, $500 million worth of military vehicles and less than $100 million of 120mm mortar shells, US officials said,” the WSJ reported.

However, the newspaper notes, these possible supplies come in addition to the emergency spending package being considered in Congress for the needs of US allies, including Israel. At the same time, the proposal for new defense contracts with the participation of Israel may encounter opposition among some American congressmen who oppose the provision of new volumes of weapons to the Israeli side.

The State Department and the Pentagon did not comment on this information. The White House did not respond to WSJ’s request for this information. The Israeli Ministry of Defense also declined to comment.

According to the publication, since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, the United States has sent the Israeli side thousands of bombs, tank and artillery shells, precision weapons and air defense systems.
