‘Varaha Roopa’ in Kantara is a plagiarism of Thaikudam Bridge’s song, I’m sure: Harish Sivaramakrishnan
Kannada film Kantara, which is advancing with box office collection records, has been accused of plagiarism. It is now being argued that one of the main songs in the film, ‘Varaharupam’, was plagiarized from Thaikudam Bridge’s song Navarasam.
Some profiles have already mentioned this on social media. Now singer Harish Sivaramakrishnan has also raised this issue through his Facebook post and has come forward with strong criticism.
The song “Varaha Roopa” is an uncredited copy of the 90% orchestral arrangement of Navarasam by Thaikudam Bridge. It is not just because it is the same raga. I am sure,’ said Harish.
Music director Ajneesh Lokesh had responded to allegations of plagiarism shortly after Kantara’s release.
At that time, Ajneesh said in some interviews that they did not copy any tune and the composition was completely different.
‘We have used the same style and a similar tune. But the composition is different. Both are two different songs. Some songs are looked at for reference. Will also look at the tempo. But if you say it is plagiarized, I can’t accept it.
The style, tempo and melody of rock music have been the inspiration for this song. I have heard Navrasa song before. That song has inspired me a lot.
It seems that the lyrics are the same because it is a raga. I have created the Varaha form by combining Thodi, Varali and Mukhari ragas. If you ask those who know music, they will say that these two are two songs,’ were Ajeneesh’s words.
Screenshots of this reply were shared by some under Harish Sivaramakrishnan’s post. Harish replied that Ajeneesh’s response was not at all honest. Harish added that all the guitar and other percussion parts are plagiarized.
