Garment workers left the capital’s Banani road after a 2-hour blockade since morning to protest factory closure. Now the traffic movement has been normalized from the busiest road of the capital to all the surrounding roads. On Saturday (May 4) around 10:00 am, the traffic was normalized when the workers left the road due to the intervention of the police.

Banani police station officer-in-charge (OC) Kazi Sahan Haque said, Banani’s apparel garments were closed without notice. After coming to work in the morning, the workers got angry and stayed on the road after seeing the closure. Later they were explained and removed to the railway line and nearby areas. Additional police have been deployed to deal with the situation. Traffic is normal now.

Earlier on Saturday (May 4) around 8:30 am, they took this position. This caused severe traffic jams on almost all the roads from Mahakhali to the airport. Later, at around 9 o’clock, they left the road and took a position on the railway line on the assurance of the police.

The workers said that the garment factory authorities put up the closure notice without informing them. They are angry that the factory was closed like this before Qurbani. They demand that three months salary and Qurbani Eid bonus should be given to the owner. However, the factory authorities could not give any answer as to why the garments were stopped without notice.

Meanwhile, the workers announced that they will continue their agitation if their demands are not met.
