the world that Biden leaves us is a big mess

by time news

The era Joe Biden is about to end and will not go down in history with a positive meaning: there is no doubt about this. We are not referring to economic issues, hyper-progressive interventions or the management of the pandemic. The greatest failure of the outgoing head of the White House is inextricably linked to foreign policy: with him they exploded due to war – that in Ukraine and that in the Middle East – without forgetting the other dynamics of tension, just think of China.

After beating Trump, Biden decided to destroy all the work done by the tycoonwith almost fatal consequences. As per Democratic tradition, the president has configured America as a global policeman, shining the spotlight on the immortal clash between democracies and dictatorships. Washington exports democracy, the refrain is always the same: a mission, an obligation. And we are seeing the repercussions on world peace – once again – in these hours.

Supported by National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan – according to many the true foreign policy strategist – Biden has started his mandate in the worst possible way. How to forget the chaotic abandonment of Afghanistan to say the least after twenty years of military occupation, a self-defeating move that left the field open for the return of the Taliban. “I had to choose whether to respect a withdrawal agreement made by my predecessor or continue fighting the Taliban and send thousands of soldiers back to Afghanistan to fight. I fully defend my decision,” Biden’s version. A Caporetto. But the worst is yet to come.

Instead of continuing the work done by Trump in relations with the RussiaBiden has increasingly fueled tension with Moscow. The refusal to seek a shared negotiated solution to the fracture that opened in 2014 is emblematic. Ukraine’s rapprochement with NATO – never denied – pushed Vladimir Putin to the crazy decision to invade Volodymyr Zelensky’s country. And at that moment Biden made another mistake: instead of trying to heal an already deep rift, he threw fuel on the fire. Already in the early hours of February 24, 2022, it sided with Kiev in one direction, treating Putin as an enemy – or rather the enemy – and totally isolating him from the West. Peace compromised, but not only that: Moscow has strengthened the relations with Chinastrengthening the anti-Western axis.

Biden’s “gifts” are not over. The dem administration led by him has also compromised stability in Middle East. If Trump had worked for a long time on the “Abraham Accords”signed in 2020 between Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain with the aim of bringing Tel Aviv closer to the most influential countries of Sunni Islam, and above all toSaudi Arabia. A great intuition to keep extremist countries such as Iran and the various movements linked to Tehran such as Hamas and Hezbollah at a distance. Well, Biden has destabilized the area from every point of view. The current leader of the White House has distanced Washington from the Saudis, re-establishing dialogue with Iran.

By putting the “x” on the peace path set by Trump for the Middle East, Biden has effectively helped the formation of the anti-West coalition. Hostility with Russia has pushed Moscow to sever its excellent relations with Israel, pushing Putin to strengthen ties with Iran, evidenced by repeated exchanges of arms. If with Trump the United States represented a balancer at an international level, with Biden there has been a reversal of trend that is harmful to our democracies, with the strengthening of that world war to pieces which risks – at any moment – becoming compact. As if that wasn’t enough, the failed management is a point of reference for Kamala Harris, ready to propose it again in the event of victory in the November elections. One thing is certain: the world that Biden leaves us is a big mess.
