For nine days, San Sebastián will be decked out again to welcome the stars of Zinemaldia. The ‘glamour’ and the best-known faces of the cinematographic scene will flood the different locations of a Film Festival that is heating up its engines just a few days before its official start. In this context, there are many projects linked to the event that have been presented in recent days, among which the ‘Dressing the stars of Zinemaldia’ initiative stands out.

For the seventh consecutive year, the presenters, actors and directors of the 71st edition galas will once again wear Basque fashion thanks to the project channeled through the Department of Culture of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, the Department of Economic Promotion of the San Sebastián city council , in collaboration with the Basque Government and Zinemaldia. «The Festival is a multidisciplinary event» where many currents come together, therefore, «it is a pride to contribute to making local talent visible, becoming an international showcase of Basque and Guipuzcoan fashion. If we have high-quality fashion here, let’s give it the place it deserves in as many spaces as we can. This project has shown that Basque creators are on a par with the most consolidated firms in the textile sector,” highlighted José Luis Rebordinos during the launch of the project.

Despite the 39 initial adhesions to the project, there were finally 15 firms preselected to create the looks of the media protagonists. It was the Deputy for Culture, Goizane Álvarez, who was in charge of revealing the identity of those chosen: «Loreak Mendian, SKFK, Eñaut, Sister Sister Brand, Gorka Cintero, Sastrería Aldabaldetreku, Talisman Jewelery, Manuela va de fiesta, Raquel Balencia Couture, Inés Itsaso, Soñarte, Artola Couture, Mao, Aiza Couture and Laza Clothing will represent Basque fashion during this edition.

Furthermore, during his speech, Álvarez stressed that participation has increased by 15% compared to 2022, a fact “more than remarkable”, as it demonstrates “the consolidation and maturity of fashion in our territory.” Marisol Garmendia, Councilor for Economy, Local Employment and Ecology of San Sebastián, also stressed “the importance of promoting a sustainable, innovative red carpet, full of creativity, very varied and local.”

Brands such as SKFK, Loreak Mendian or Sastrería Aldabaldetreku have already received the happy news. «We are happy and proud to participate in an event of this category. Our choice to dress the presenter of the Perlak section is a unique opportunity,” highlighted María Edroso, representative of Loreak Mendian. Sastrería Aldabaldetreku, for its part, also confirmed its collaboration with eight protagonists who will wear various outfits from the brand.

«There is a lot of work behind each process. We don’t just limit ourselves to showing our proposals. Choosing clothing is sometimes very complicated because many factors influence it. Although adjustments are a constant, sometimes we end up making custom suits,” stressed Ángel Navarro, head of tailoring.
