(ANSA) – ROME, AUGUST 14 – The hundredth anniversary of the birth of director Giorgio Strehler (which took place in Trieste on August 14, 1921) was commemorated today with the issue of a stamp valid for ordinary mail. The vignette of the postal value shows a portrait of Giorgio Strehler engaged in giving direction directions; in the background stands a luminous sign with the name of the Piccolo Teatro di Milano. In 1947, in fact, Strehler was one of the founders of the ” Piccolo Teatro ” which then hosted some of his most famous productions. In addition to directing numerous plays and operas, Strehler was also a member of the European Parliament and senator. He died in Lugano in 1997. The special “first day of issue” cancellation is available in Trieste; the issue is part of the thematic series dedicated to the Italian show. (HANDLE).
