The students of the Jean-Zay high school in Jarny (Meurthe-et-Moselle) had a happy surprise after sending a documented file to the National Center for Space Studies (CNES). As reported France 3 Grand-Estseveral final year and BTS aeronautics students will go to Bordeaux (Gironde) in March 2024 to participate in a parabolic flight in the space agency’s premises.

A CNES conference

They will have to carry out eight experiments during this weightless flight. One of them will consist of determining how habitats will be built on the planet Mars by studying the drilling of Martian regolith. Another will aim to evaluate the speed of movement of drones on the red planet.

According to the mathematics and physical sciences teacher who initiated this initiative, this project has increased student motivation and even sparked a few scientific vocations. Others will perhaps be born on December 19, when the school will receive several members of the CNES, and perhaps an astronaut, for a conference.
