Düsseldorf Female, migration background, working class child and manager in an IT company. How many people do you know who fit this description? Probably not many. Because careers like that of Annahita Esmailzadeh are still the exception in this country. Various prejudices regarding age, gender, immigration history and family background lead to structural disadvantages for entire groups of people in the job.

A lot of potential remains untapped, argues Esmailzadeh in her book “Of Quota Women and Old White Men”. “Employers lose the opportunity for qualified talent when people fall off the grid due to bias in the application process or leave the company due to discrimination in the work environment,” she says.
