Yesterday morning, Girardot, Cundinamarca, the death of the first sectional prosecutor, Carlos Ricardo Gaitán Bazurto, was recorded, who would have jumped from the sixth floor of the Prosecutor’s Office headquarters in the city.
Gaitán, with 10 years in the entity, had expressed his fight against work overload and stress, requesting a change to inquests to alleviate the pressure affecting his physical and mental health. In addition, he faced personal problems that aggravated his situation.
With an outstanding record that included his performance as director of the Unit against Intellectual Property and Telecommunications in 2013, Gaitán was immersed in important investigations at the time of his tragic death. One of the cases: the seizure of fake $40 billion in the house of the former mayor of San Gil Orlando Rodríguez Billar, in 2013.

The authorities, given this fact, are immersed in an investigation to clarify the circumstances of his death. It has not yet been determined whether it was a suicide, and the results of Forensic Medicine and the investigations of the Prosecutor’s Office are awaited to shed light on what happened.
In a statement issued after the tragic incident, the Attorney General’s Office deeply regretted the loss and announced the appointment of a specialized prosecutor and a CTI team to carry out the relevant investigations. The objective is to “clearly determine the causes of this unfortunate loss” and provide answers to this painful situation.
