## Nobel Laureate Economist Speaks on Bangladesh‘s Freedom and Future
Nobel laureate economist Dr. Muhammad Yunus expressed his conviction that Bangladesh has achieved independence for the second time, and emphasized the need to protect this newfound freedom.
He made these remarks at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Thursday (August 8).
Dr. Yunus highlighted the pivotal role of the youth in Bangladesh’s revolution, stating that they have “reborn” the country. He expressed gratitude towards them and emphasized the importance of delivering freedom to every household.
He also addressed recent attacks, suggesting that the focus should be on protecting all people and restoring order. He expressed confidence that if people trust him, there will be no attacks, but warned that he is not dependent on their approval.
Urging against vigilante justice, Dr. Yunus suggested that violence should be reported to the police. He also shared a personal memory of his friend, Abu Saeed, and encouraged the young generation to take ownership of the country and build it according to their vision.
The economist emphasized the need for a trustworthy government that can inspire confidence and protect the people. He expressed his hope that the current government will uphold these values.
Dr. Yunus concluded his speech by emphasizing the importance of unity and collective action, urging people to work together as a family.
The plane carrying Dr. Yunus from Paris, France landed at Shahjalal International Airport today at 2:10 PM. He was received by three army chiefs and representatives from various organizations, including anti-discrimination student movement leaders and civil society activists.
