Your telephone or internet connection no longer works – maybe even for several days? You can then demand compensation from the provider.

Many people don’t know this: If the internet or telephone goes down, you can claim compensation from the third day onwards. The Rhineland-Palatinate Consumer Center points this out. However, this is only possible under certain conditions.

On the one hand, the provider must be informed immediately after the failure. If it is his fault and he does not repair the damage within two days or does not offer replacement care, he is entitled to compensation from the third day of loss.

At least 5 euros per day

The amount of compensation is regulated by law. On the third and fourth day of failure it is five euros or ten percent of the monthly fee – whichever is more. From the fifth day onwards the compensation doubles.

According to the consumer advice center, providers often try to fob off those affected by waiving the basic fee when these disruptions occur. With their sample letter, the consumer advocates provide something for a claim for compensation.
