Like cats and most mammals, dogs have tear ducts, but these are mostly used to moisten and protect their eyes, not to express distress. If you still see tears in your dog’s eyes, there is usually another problem behind it.
The most likely explanation is an allergy, eye irritation, a foreign object in their eye, possibly a blocked tear duct or an infection.
However, there are a number of behaviors that can indicate that dogs are sad or anxious. For example, frequent whining is a sure sign that the dog is not feeling well. It is also a common symptom that they show no interest in activities that they normally enjoy, such as going for a walk or playing outside.
Loss of appetite, excessive licking and changes in sleeping habits may also indicate a problem. In certain dogs, destructive behavior can also be used to express negative emotions. And what makes them sad? One of the biggest triggers is change: whether it’s a new house, an upheaval in routine, or the loss of a loved one. In most cases, a healthy diet, regular play and physical activity are the best ways to relieve them of these pains.
