The gang exploits a vulnerability in a file transfer program that has gone undetected for months. Week after week, she publishes more names of organizations that are said to be affected.

Those who do not pay the ransom, so the threat, must expect that sensitive data will be published. Experts warn that thousands of other organizations worldwide could be affected, including in Germany.

Who are the hackers?

Clop (own spelling: Cl0p) is one of the market leaders in the criminal business. The group is known for setting “global trends in the spread of criminal malware”, explains the US IT security authority Cisa – i.e. in harmful software that encrypts systems or ejects data, for example.
