There is a dispute between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan over an area of about 1,000 km along the border.

Three people were killed in a clash between soldiers on the Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan border. So far 27 soldiers have been injured in the conflict. Both countries have accused each other of using weapons including tanks and mortars during the two-day conflict. There is a dispute between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan over an area of about 1,000 km along the border. The Prime Ministers of both countries are currently attending the Shanghai Summit in Samarkand.
The governors of neighboring Kyrgyz and Tajik provinces have reached the border region to meet and take steps to calm the situation. Soldiers of both countries are on high alert along the border.
A long-standing border dispute between the two former Soviet republics has now opened the door to a bitter conflict. The borders of these countries, which suddenly gained independence after the collapse of the Soviet Union, are not precisely defined. Because of this, conflict over the border is common. A border dispute had brought the two countries to a mini-war last year. Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are countries that have close ties with Russia. Russian military bases are located in both countries. Political observers believe that there will be an urgent intervention by Moscow to settle the dispute between the allies.
